TOLEDO, Ohio — For Toledo car theft victims, recovering a stolen vehicle isn’t always the relief it seems. Between damage, repair costs and towing logistics, the process can be nearly as stressful as the theft itself.
WTOL 11 reporter Maya May experienced that firsthand after her Kia was stolen twice in a month. She said police recently found the car in west Toledo, but deemed it undrivable.
Kyle Nicholson, a mechanic at C & J’s Complete Automotive on West Alexis Road, said it takes only seconds for thieves to strip a Kia’s steering column. “You rip it right off, throw it off to the side and then you just grab the wire,” Nicholson said while demonstrating the process.
