Maumee agrees to upgrade sewer system through settlement

MAUMEE, Ohio — Attorney General Dave Yost, R-Ohio, said the city of Maumee has agreed to make upgrades to its sewer system following a proposed settlement.

Yost said the upgrades had been long overdue. He explained that heavy rain had caused parts of the city’s sewer system to overflow with sanitary wastewater for years, alleging the city had pumped the untreated overflows from manholes into the Maumee River for a long time. Yost alleged this prevented sewage from flooding residential businesses.

“Sewage doesn’t belong in a scenic river,” Yost said. “I’m glad to see that Maumee’s city leaders are serious about tackling the source of this pollution once and for all.”…
