Lucas County sheriff’s deputy resigns after multiple DUI arrests, drinking on the job

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Lucas County Sheriff’s deputy has resigned following a string of alcohol-related incidents, including allegedly drinking on duty, a hit-and-run crash and multiple DUI arrests across Ohio and Michigan.

11 Investigates obtained body camera footage and internal affairs documents that detail the troubling behavior of Sgt. Kristin Matuszewski, who stepped down from the sheriff’s office on Aug. 1, 2025.

According to internal affairs reports, Matuszewski was first caught in January 2024 drinking vodka in his truck in the sheriff’s office parking lot while on duty. He later admitted to drinking while assigned to both the Juvenile and Common Pleas courts…
