Toledo Public Schools difference-makers brainstorm plans for the school year

As the school year starts for Toledo Public Schools, high school students are brainstorming ways to be a resource for their peers.

Kara Growden, 16, a sophomore at Woodward High School, stood in front of more than 30 students on Wednesday and explained how the students at that school help each other with topics like hygiene, absenteeism, and mental health.

Groups of eight to 10 from schools including Scott, Woodward, Rogers, and Start high schools and Toledo Technology Academy exchanged ideas on how to be there for other students. They’re a part of TPS’ Students Making Achievements Right This Second program, or SMARTS, an initiative that encourages them to identify issues and figure out how to tackle them…
