Man who helped others rob letter carrier gets 20 months in prison

A Toledo man who drove the getaway car for the robbery of a letter carrier received a 20-month prison sentence from a federal judge Tuesday morning.

Kathleen Tharp, the defense lawyer for Damere Wilson, 21, urged U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary to consider probation on the grounds of her client’s crime-free past, his steady employment, and the impact a prison term would have on his infant son, girlfriend, and mother.

But while Judge Zouhary gave Wilson a lighter sentence than suggested in federal guidelines, “I can’t in good conscience go that far in this case” as to sparing him incarceration altogether…
