Jim Schmakel learned about a year ago that the University of Toledo had named its annual homecoming parade after his uncle, Edward Schmakel, he said Saturday.
Edward Schmakel was the director of alumni relations for 20 years before his death in 2005.
“His son passed last year and I just wanted the family to see something that saluted Ed Schmakel,” Mr. Schmakel said Saturday while standing on Bancroft Street’s grassy median taking pictures of students, alumni, and local city officials during the university’s Edward C. and Helen G.
