TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Toledo Police Department announced a new “Drone-as-First-Responder” (DFR) program, which is intended to increase situational awareness, reduce risks to officers and the public and decrease response times.
According to a press release from the Toledo Police Department, the program launched on Sept. 29 and allows a Toledo Police officer to manually operate a drone for calls for service. According to TPD, the drone operator will be able to give responding officers up-to-date information while en route and assist while on the scene.
The police department said the DFR system can reach anywhere within a 3.5-mile radius and has an average response time of 85 seconds…
