Toledo library system may have to cut over 20 positions due to reduced funding, spokesperson says

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Lucas County Public Library may have to eliminate about 24 positions to handle state funding reductions that are coming next year.

The staff reductions, which library spokesperson Stephanie Elton said were not finalized, come after other changes in reaction to reduced funding for public library systems in the state’s two-year budget. These changes include reduced hours at some locations and closing the Toledo Heights branch in January, consolidating its services into the Heatherdowns branch and eventually closing that one when a planned new library is built in a few years.

“With the reduced service hours at several locations, closing Toledo Heights and other cost-saving measures already taken this year, Library leadership determined that about two dozen positions may need to be eliminated to manage the decrease in operating revenue from the Public Library Fund in 2026,” Elton said…
