Blissfield police chief shoots 2 dogs, killing 1; witness says he yelled he was ‘afraid for his life’

BLISSFIELD, Mich. — A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office report shows Blissfield Police Chief Dale Greenleaf shot two dogs in a Bedford Township neighborhood Monday evening after he said they attacked him during his nightly walk while he was off duty.

Deputies responded around 7:10 p.m. Oct. 6 to what was first reported as a medical call but quickly became an animal-control investigation. Multiple neighbors told deputies they heard two gunshots and later saw Greenleaf holstering a handgun while saying he had been bitten and was “afraid for my life,” according to the report.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and the dogs’ owners, Todd and Nicole Snyder. The couple’s Boston terriers – Charlie, 2, and Dexter, 3 – had apparently escaped the fenced yard. Charlie died at an emergency veterinary clinic; Dexter survived with serious injuries…
