Months without infant sleep deaths show progress, but Lucas County coroner says work still needs to be done

LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — The Toledo area has seen a promising trend: several months without a single sleep-related infant death.

Lucas County Coroner Dr. Tom Blomquist said Thursday in a news conference that progress shows community education about safe sleep is making a real difference.

“I was surprised when November came around and there were no unsafe sleep-related infant deaths,” Blomquist said. “December… no unsafe sleep infant deaths. January, February, March, April… no unsafe sleep-related infant deaths.”…
