TPS investigation raises questions about paraprofessionals using restraint in schools

TOLEDO, Ohio β€” An investigation is underway into a Toledo Public Schools paraprofessional who restrained an 8-year-old student at an elementary school last month.

Brenda Gift, assistant superintendent at Lake Erie West Educational Service Center, said physical restraint should only be used when someone is in physical danger.

“It is a traumatic situation if you have to put your hands on somebody. It’s very, very tough, but it is very last resort,” Gift said…
