TOLEDO, Ohio — A man is facing more than a dozen charges in the death of a woman who was found shot in west Toledo.
Jeffrey Townsend, Jr., 35, was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury on the following counts Tuesday, each of which includes a firearm specification, and three of which – the murder and felonious assault charges – include repeat violent offender specifications:
- Murder, two counts
- Felonious assault, a second degree felony
- Having weapons while under disability, a third degree felony
- Discharge of firearm on or near prohibited premises, a first-degree felony
- Trafficking in cocaine, a third-degree felony
- Possession of cocaine, a third-degree felony
- Trafficking, preparing for shipment, schedule I or Schedule II except marijuana, cocaine, LSD, a third-degree felony
- Drug possession, schedule I or II except marijuana, cocaine, LSD, heroin, fentanyl, hashish, a third-degree felony
- Trafficking, prepare for shipment Schedule I or Schedule II except marijuana, cocaine, LSD, heroin, a fourth-degree felony
- Aggravated possession of drugs, a fourth-degree felony
- Trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, a fourth-degree felony
- Possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fourth-degree felony
Townsend is accused of firing a handgun into a vehicle, striking 36-year-old Jacquelin Garza at least once. Police said Garza and Townsend were in a relationship.
Police found Garza’s body when they responded to a crash just before 4 a.m. in the 1700 block of Talbot Street on Oct. 19. She was taken to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.
