City of Toledo says it needs more money for smart water meters; council isn’t sold

The city of Toledo has spent about $84 million dollars to swap old water meters to smart meters, but the city needs more money, and Toledo City Council isn’t sold.

“I am so tired of this project, really,” Councilman Cerssandra McPherson said. “I did approve of it in the beginning … but I don’t think we really took the real time to really look at all of it and jumped in and every time it’s more money, more money, more money with this project, and I am really frustrated to hear that here we are again at the table talking about $960,000 on this project, again.”

The city’s Director of Public Utilities Doug Stephens is asking for $960,000 to enter into a new contract with DLZ Ohio Inc. to provide professional program management services for the advanced metering infrastructure project…
