TOLEDO, Ohio — An appeals court is refusing to grant a new trial to one of two men serving life in prison for the killing of two Toledo teenage boys in 2022, saying a disputed text message would not have been enough to change the jury’s verdict.
In May, Brent Kohlhofer’s attorney, Brandon Henderson, told a panel of Sixth District Court of Appeals judges that there was not enough evidence to convict Kohlhofer and that his defense was harmed by not being allowed to introduce a potentially beneficial text message.
The message was between Don Eames and his girlfriend, just days after Ke’Marion Wilder and KyShawn Pittman disappeared from a south Toledo home on Dec. 3, 2022.
