TOLEDO, Ohio — As the federal government shutdown continues, some local childcare centers, including those partnering with HOPE Toledo, are facing tough decisions as funding becomes uncertain. Many of those facilities are Publicly Funded Child Care centers (PFCC) and they not only provide care, but also meals for those children, whose families depend on federal programs like SNAP. Without that support, both parents and providers are left scrambling.
Rev. John C. Jones, CEO of HOPE Toledo, said funding may be an issue which could seem limited to parents and daycares, but the ripple effect reaches far wider. This could cause resentment among the community, which is something Jones said it not helpful or fair to put on parents.
“Many parents, most that I know, are doing their level best every day to figure this out and make sure they’re taking care of their children and families,” Jones said. “If you take away the support system that they have, now they’re in a level of dysfunction or disarray.”…
