Former Toledo Nonprofit Director Convicted of Embezzling Over $207K from Charity

A former director at a Toledo-area nonprofit has been convicted of filching funds from the charity, reports the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. The man in question, Thomas Ostrosky, admitted to the theft of upwards of $207,000 on Wednesday, including dollars from unwitting elderly citizens who had intended their donations to aid ex-offenders re-entering society through his Christian ministry, the Lazarus Experience.

Ostrosky’s guilty plea to the charges, which include engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, presents a staggering breach of trust. “The defendant exploited the goodwill of donors who believed in the organization’s mission,” Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost conveyed in a statement. While the organization ceased operations, the victims are left grappling with the reality of Ostrosky’s deceit.

Having originally been brought to court in April, Ostrosky was arrested in Dade City, Florida. The investigation that led to his capture and subsequent guilty plea was spearheaded by Yost’s Charitable Law Section.
