Infant care costs more than rent in these 11 cities

HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — Childcare for infants is more expensive than rent in nearly a dozen cities, researchers at loan marketplace LendingTree said Monday.

Infant care costs are as much as 15% greater in the cities, although the expenses are only a few percentage points higher in some, according to the researchers, which based their study off data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and a childcare affordability group.

Monthly infant care is nearly $2,000 in Springfield, Massachusetts, where the monthly rent for a two-bedroom apartment is a little over $1,700, LendingTree said. That represents a 15% difference, the highest for cities listed in the study…
