The Blade (“Editorial: Mull data-nomics,” Dec. 7) disparages community opposition to proposed data centers as mere NIMBYism. But what The Blade calls NIMBYism might instead be legitimate opposition to a proposed development or land use application.
Ohio has seen this before. Several years ago in Mercer County, developers pitched the idea of constructing wind turbines. The idea seemed reasonable enough, and farmers would receive several thousand dollars to lease their land. The project failed, however, almost overnight, when residents realized the turbines would tower over their revered and historic cross-tipped churches. NIMBYism?
