Man arrested for allegedly fleeing police at 100 mph, crashing into median, Toledo police say

TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was arrested and charged with a felony early Saturday after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.

Toledo police said in a report that they observed a driver – identified as 18-year-old Michael Winfree Jr. – speeding on I-75 near Ottawa River around 3:37 a.m. Officers attempted a traffic stop in the southbound lanes at I-280, but Winfree allegedly failed to stop, and fled from police. According to a Toledo Municipal Court affidavit, Winfree drove at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Winfree drove to Phillips Avenue, where he hit a raised median and attempted to continue driving on I-75. However, the vehicle was seriously damaged in the collision and came to a stop about a half-mile south of Phillips Avenue…
