Former Delta police chief sentenced after being convicted of grand theft charge

TOLEDO, Ohio — Robert Austin, a former Sylvania Township police lieutenant and Delta police chief, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty last month to a fifth-degree felony count of grand theft.

Austin, 55, was sentenced to 180 days in jail at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio and five years of community control. CCNO records show he was booked into the facility on Monday.

Austin was investigated by the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and it follows a 2024 report by 11 Investigates that showed Austin was married to two women at the same time. This resulted in a Feb. 28 indictment on charges of theft and insurance fraud…
