Wind-related power outages black out thousands in Toledo area

Several Lucas County offices were among facilities that lost electricity Friday after high wind began downing power poles and wires.

As of early afternoon, FirstEnergy reported more than 70 individual power outages affecting customers in and near Toledo, while emergency crews were responding to fallen wires and poles blocking roads at multiple locations.

According to FirstEnergy, one outage in the Oak Openings area of western Lucas County affected 2,566 customers. That represented about 40 percent of the 5,713 customer outage across its entire operating area, which includes the Cleveland area and several out-of-state utilities…
