Toledo man indicted on 18 felony charges for allegedly kidnapping, strangling and raping pregnant woman

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man was indicted Tuesday on more than a dozen counts of felony charges for allegedly holding a pregnant woman against her will in his home and raping, beating, strangling and threatening to kill her, according to court documents.

Jamere Jones, 25, was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury on 18 felony charges, ranging in severity from first-degree to fifth-degree:

  • 3 counts of kidnapping, a first-degree felony
  • 7 counts of rape, a first-degree felony
  • 1 count of strangulation, a second-degree felony
  • 3 counts of strangulation, a fourth-degree felony
  • 2 counts of felonious assault, a second-degree felony (one with firearm specification)
  • 1 count of attempted felonious assault, a third-degree felony
  • 1 count of domestic violence, a fifth-degree felony

Court documents say that on Dec. 30 and 31, Jones barricaded a door to hold the woman, who was 21 weeks pregnant at the time, inside his home while he “assaulted her, strangled her, threatened to shoot her with a rifle, and to set her on fire,” as well as raping her multiple times.

Jones allegedly poured rubbing alcohol on the woman’s head and used a lighter to threaten to light her on fire. He also allegedly pointed a loaded rifle at her chest and threatened to kill her and then himself…
