Residents hope 103-year-old grocery store remains open even after closure announcement

GIBSONBURG, Ohio — People in Gibsonburg have their fingers crossed that a 103-year-old local grocery store will remain open.

Kirwen’s Supermarket in downtown Gibsonburg said in a Jan. 3 Facebook post it would be closing because a person who originally bought the business “backed out at the last second,” co-owner Bill Kirwen said.

On Jan. 8, though, the supermarket said there might be a glimmer of hope for it to stay open, at least for the time being…
