COLUMBUS — Publicly funded child-care centers in Ohio would be required to install video cameras to surveil their facilities under forthcoming legislation proposed by state Reps. Josh Williams (R., Sylvania Township) and D.J. Swearingen (R., Huron).
During a statehouse news conference, Mr. Williams said the measure would improve child safety, strengthen oversight, and prevent fraud.
“Ohio has a responsibility to ensure that children in publicly funded child-care centers are safe and that taxpayer dollars are being used honestly,” Mr. Williams said last week. “The state needs to possess adequate tools to fully audit these centers and to guarantee child safety in a meaningful and appropriate way. This legislation closes that gap.”…
