At least 715 bald eagles — maybe more — are wintering in Ohio

Citizen volunteers spotted 715 American bald eagles during the annual midwinter survey that was conducted recently, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources reports.

Erie County came in third with 24 sightings. Lucas and Sandusky counties finished in a three-way tie with Ross County, each with 20 sightings. Wood County was 10th with 16 sightings.

While it’s another encouraging sign of the national symbol’s comeback, the statistics don’t tell the whole story…
