12 years later, Toledo remembers fallen firefighters through service and gratitude

TOLEDO, Ohio — Inside Toledo Fire and Rescue Station Three in north Toledo, photos line the walls — reminders of the men who once walked its halls and the legacy they left behind.

Among them are Toledo firefighters Jamie Dickman and Stephen Machcinski, who were killed in the line of duty 10 years ago to the day while responding to an apartment fire on Magnolia Street. The Jan. 26, 2014, fire was later ruled an arson.

One image stands out: two small children wearing firefighter jackets, American flags in hand. One of them is 3-year-old Kierra Cready, now older but still closely tied to the firefighters she honors…
