TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man who was previously sentenced to death for the killing of a convenience store clerk during a 2008 robbery has now been resentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Court records show Anthony Belton’s death sentence was vacated Thursday after a hearing in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.
Belton had been on Ohio’s death row after being convicted in the shooting death of 34-year-old Matthew Dugan, a clerk working the night shift at a Toledo BP station.
