Vendors turned away from Michigan Oddities and Horror Fest cite overbooking, scheduling issues

MONROE, Mich. — Dozens of vendors say a horror-themed convention in Monroe County turned into a costly disappointment this weekend after they were turned away from the event, despite paying booth fees and traveling long distances to attend.

The Michigan Oddities and Horror Fest, held at the Expo Center, was expected to be a busy weekend for small businesses. Instead, more than 20 vendors say they arrived Saturday only to be told there was no space left for them to set up.

Several vendors shared their experiences on Facebook, saying they paid to participate, booked hotels and drove hours to the event before learning it was overbooked…
