Lions Club to host Monroe meeting for new members

The Greater Monroe Lions Club will host a meeting for potential members at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, according to a community announcement.

The meeting aims to inform community members about how they can contribute to both local and global service efforts through the club and its parent, Lions Clubs International. The organization focuses on eight global causes: youth, vision, childhood cancer, environment, hunger, diabetes, humanitarian efforts and disaster relief.

Lions activities help Monroe County

In Monroe County, the Lions Club has been active in several initiatives over the past year. The club supported the Bed Race to Aid Children, conducted childhood vision screenings and offered diabetic retinopathy screenings at community events, including the Monroe County Fair.

What will be shared at the meeting

“There is tremendous opportunity for service in Monroe County,” Kim Hooper, district governor for Lions clubs in Monroe and Wayne counties, said in the announcement. “When community-minded individuals come together, we can expand our reach and serve even more neighbors in need.”
