TOLEDO, Ohio — A woman has been charged with aggravated arson for a fire last week that burned an east Toledo home down.
Megan Shute, 38, is accused of starting the fire on Tuesday inside of a home on Licking Street near Colorado Street. There were no injuries, but home was called a total loss by the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department.
According to a police report, Shute told officers who responded to the scene that she lived at the home and was getting ready to “take her dog for a walk, was holding a candle, tripped and dropped the candle on a mattress, which ignited rapidly.” Shute told police she was not able to put the fire out and she then left the home with her dog.
