TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A heart surgery dubbed “BATMAN” is a first for the Toledo area.
BATMAN stands for Balloon-Assisted Translocation of the Mitral Anterior Leaflet. It’s a heart surgery that requires an image cardiologist to maintain a video feed while two structural cardiologists perform the procedure.
“These are multiple catheters at the same time. So, for BATMAN, for example, instead of having one catheter in a regular procedure, we have 5 catheters going through five different veins and arteries at the same time,” said Anas Norman, MD, a Structural Interventional Cardiologist with Toledo Cardiology Consultants…
