Oregon law director says data center ordinance did pass despite abstention

OREGON, Ohio — Just days after questions were raised about whether a controversial data center ordinance in Oregon actually passed, the city’s acting law director says it did.

In a legal opinion sent to city leaders this week, Acting Law Director Chynna Fifer says Ordinance No. 20–2026 was approved, even though one council member abstained from voting because of a conflict of interest.

That’s a shift from the uncertainty about the Feb. 9 vote’s result WTOL 11, when it was unclear whether the 3-2 vote was enough to move the project forward…
