Just down the road about 15 minutes from Toledo is a walleye fishing paradise along the Maumee River that is known to most in northwest Ohio and beyond.
Those wanting to fish are often asking when is the best time to block off time in his or her calendar.
There is no exact predictor to tell when it will click on for sure, other than whether the water level and temperature are right — usually between 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Other ways are to wait for when anglers with big smiles are displaying stringers of “six packs” of keepers online or from word of mouth that the “fish are in the river.” The run of 500,000 fish can start to swarm through as early as February but the best action is in March and early April.
An Ohio Division of Wildlife biologist, however, says conditions are ripe for a later sustained run this year that should make it “fantastic” to even “great.”…
