Judge sets tentative October trial date for Darnell Jones

Attorneys for Darnell Jones, who is accused of killing his 13-year-old daughter, Kei’mani Latigue, said they are prepared to bring the case to a jury in October.

At a hearing Monday morning, David Klucas, the lead attorney for Jones, told the court the October date was necessary to allow sufficient time for hearings and motions to be filed ahead of a jury trial.

Particularly, defense attorneys said they need time to gather evidence for a hearing that aims to prove Jones had a serious mental illness at the time of the incident. If that is proven by the defense, it would remove the death-penalty specification…
