Seventy percent of children drown in everyday clothes, said Kristin Olson, aquatic director at the Eastern Community YMCA in Oregon.
“People don’t realize that,” Ms. Olson said. “They think it happens during swim times and it really doesn’t. It happens. They fall in somewhere, something happens. That means they don’t have floaties, backpacks, nothing. We want them to be able to save their own life.”
