Toledo Plant Shutters In May, 63 Workers Left Scrambling

A Toledo manufacturing fixture on Miami Street is set to go quiet this spring, with 63 workers now staring down a firm end date for their jobs.

Boelter Companies has confirmed it will permanently close the Custom Deco LLC plant at 1343 Miami Street, with layoffs expected to begin on or around May 11 and the final day of operations scheduled for May 29.

Company cites sale, lines up transition help

In a WARN notice filed with state officials, Boelter pointed to changing business circumstances and a pending sale as the drivers behind the shutdown. The company told employees it has brought in ClearPointHCO to provide outplacement support and said the new owner expects to hire roughly 22 current workers, according to Cleveland.com.

WARN notice lays out legal timeline

The filing falls under Ohio’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification process, which requires certain employers to give affected employees at least 60 days’ advance notice before large layoffs or closures. The state posts WARN information through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. In Boelter’s submission, the company lists May 11 as the anticipated start of layoffs and May 29 as the plant’s final operating day.
