Murder trial for two men delayed after lawyer withdraws

The aggravated murder trial of two men accused in a 16-year-old boy’s killing last year in Toledo has been delayed by nearly three months after a defense lawyer withdrew on the eve of jury selection.

Judge Lori Olender on Thursday granted lawyer Phil Carlisle’s motion to withdraw from the Lucas County Common Pleas Court case against Diamani Lear after he informed the judge about a conflict that was not described for the public.

The judge then promoted LaRon Bankston to be that defendant’s lead counsel and appointed Gretchen DeBacker to sit in the “second chair” for the defense…
