Kaptur honors longtime Dino’s chef killed in New Year’s Eve crash

WASHINGTON — Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur honored the legacy of a longtime cook at Dino’s Family Restaurant whose sudden death on New Year’s Eve shattered the diner’s tight-knit family during a recent speech on the House floor.

Kaptur, who represents the congressional district that includes Maumee, shared the speech on social media Friday, where she called 44-year-old Timothy Haase “the steady heart” of the diner.

“For more than two decades, Tim showed up before dawn, fed neighbors with kindness and reminded us that dignity lives in every service,” Kaptur said. “His tragic loss on New Year’s Eve has left an empty chair at the counter and a deeper ache in a community that loved him and that he helped build.
