Consulting firm validates Monroe commissioners’ concerns about attorney’s billing practices

MONROE — A financial report by Plante Moran supports the concerns of some Monroe County commissioners regarding the billing practices of county indigent defense lawyer Ronald Bruce.

Mr. Bruce, who’s also the owner of Bruce Law Firm in Monroe, has been the center of controversy for more than a year after he invoiced the county $596,031.40 between 2023 and 2024. He has routinely billed the county for more than 23 hours in one day.

The report, which was completed last month, said the invoices the consulting firm reviewed that were submitted by Mr. Bruce “contained duplicative, unsupported, entirely false, inaccurate, and chronologically impossible charges.”…
