Monroe Cops Nab Armed Driver After North Dixie Traffic Stop

On Monday’s traffic stop near North Dixie Highway and Detroit Avenue ended with Monroe police arresting a 26-year-old city resident, recovering a loaded handgun and booking the driver into the county jail. Officers reported pulling over a black Jeep Compass they believed was being driven without valid insurance; during the stop, the driver told officers he had a loaded .22-caliber handgun and admitted he did not have a concealed pistol license. The department has sent the case to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for review of potential charges that include driving while license suspended, no insurance and carrying a concealed weapon.

According to a post from the Monroe Public Safety Department City of Monroe, MI, officers recovered a Walther .22-caliber handgun loaded with nine rounds from the driver’s pocket. The post identified the suspect as a 26-year-old Monroe resident and noted that officers took him into custody “without incident.” The department added that it remains committed to proactively protecting the safety and well‑being of the community.
