Man arrested after assaulting, shooting at teen in west Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio — A 28-year-old Toledo man was arrested Saturday after police said he led officers on a short vehicle chase in west Toledo before running inside his apartment and striking and shooting at a teenage girl.

Officers responded at 1:54 a.m. to the 6000 block of Morningside Drive for a reported threat involving a firearm or other weapon when they spotted a vehicle matching a description of the person involved, according to an incident report. When they attempted to pull over the vehicle, driven by Thomas Cavanaugh, 28, of Toledo, police said he instead fled. He then drove the vehicle up on the curb of his apartment building in the 6100 block of Northtowne Court and fled inside.

Police said he then punched and kicked a 17-year-old girl who was inside, as well as fired a gun at her. The girl was later taken to a nearby hospital and released, the report shows. Police said the gun was recovered in the parking lot of the apartment…
