Suspect allegedly armed with knife fatally shot by Monroe County deputy

MONROE COUNTY, Michigan — A suspect is dead after being shot by a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy at a hotel Sunday, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

The incident happened at the TownePlace Suites on N. Dixie Highway in Frenchtown Township just after 11 a.m. when a deputy responded to a report of a person who had “threatened a citizen while soliciting money,” according to a press release from Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.

The deputy made contact with the suspect, who allegedly had a knife. The deputy reported that he had deployed his Taser twice, and shortly after, fired two shots and struck the suspect…
