TUCSON, AZ — Southern Arizona is facing at least one more day of dangerous heat before relief begins to arrive. The extreme heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m., keeping the Tucson area under a public safety alert as temperatures stay elevated through the day.
Forecasters also expect slightly better chances for storms, with a few cells potentially drifting closer to Tucson. Those storms could bring strong wind gusts, blowing dust and hail, adding another layer of risk on top of the heat.
Storm chances increase, but so do the hazards
The expected storm activity is not a simple break from the heat. Any developing storms could move quickly and produce sudden changes in conditions, especially in open desert areas and along roadways where dust can reduce visibility.
Even isolated thunderstorms can create localized damage when strong outflow winds kick up debris or when hail falls briefly but hard. For residents, the takeaway is that weather hazards may shift from extreme heat to fast-moving storm impacts within the same afternoon.
