A house fire near San Joaquin Road and Bopp Road on Tucson’s southwest side turned into a violent confrontation Sunday night when two residents allegedly attacked a fire captain and sheriff’s deputies working the scene. Sean Michael Gueffroy, 35, and Sarah Marie Peterson, 36, now face felony assault charges, while a minor was cited for obstruction.
According to KVOA, San Xavier District deputies responded to the house fire near San Joaquin Road and Milkyway Drive at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Residents at the home appeared to be upset with crews from the Drexel Heights Fire District, the outlet reported, and deputies told the suspects to step away from the firefighting operations.
Per the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the suspects refused to step away from the active firefighting operations. That refusal escalated quickly: Gueffroy allegedly assaulted a fire captain and then allegedly assaulted two deputies, and he is accused of resisting detention once officers attempted to take him into custody, the sheriff’s department said, according to the same report.
Charges Filed Against Both Adults
Gueffroy faces charges of aggravated assault on a fire captain and a sheriff’s deputy, while Peterson faces a charge of aggravated assault on a first responder, the outlet’s report notes.
