Fear and fun at Old Tucson’s Nightfall

The honorable Judge Blackwood is holding court for the 34th year of Nightfall, and all must rise, even the dead.

The event, which takes place every October, is a frightful reimagining of Old Tucson, the city’s historical old-west film set turned family entertainment park. As the sun begins to set, the frontier town fills up with grim specters, undead townspeople and other sinister characters.

The two nightfall figureheads are Judge Blackwood, the town’s pallid, red-eyed, black-toothed, hairless, tyrannical leader, and Crazy Sam, an unhinged yet humorous, fear inspiring character of Nightfall tradition, who can be seen simultaneously wearing old-western inmate pants and a sheriff’s badge…
