Northside standoff ends in arrest Wednesday night

UPDATE 10:16 p.m. – A suspect is in custody after an hours long standoff on Tucson’s Northside, Wednesday night.

The Tucson Police Department tells KGUN 9 a suspect was arrested by TPD Swat after 9 p.m. and a second man was detained at the home.

KGUN 9 crews on the scene spoke with a Kevin Andrade who lives in the area and works at the taqueria across the street. He said a similar situation happened about two weeks ago.

“There was cops stopped waiting for somebody and then as soon as they saw, I believe it was an Altima, and… they pulled into the alley way and that’s when they had cornered him there,” Andrade said.

KGUN 9’s photographer and other witnesses could could feel the effects of a tear gas-like substance in the air.

Andrade says the gas officials sprayed was so strong he could feel it in the taqueria and they had to close down.

Police say no injuries were reported.

Tucson Police officers, SWAT and negotiators are on scene near North 15th Avenue and West Grant Road where they say a suspect is barricaded inside a home.
