Texas fried chicken franchise Layne’s Chicken Fingers is coming to Arizona. Open since 1994, the Texas “born and breaded” chain has become a source of debate among chicken lovers.
People are either team Cane’s or team Layne’s. There are entire Reddit threads dedicated to the chicken battle, one dating back 11 years.
“I prefer Layne’s,” wrote danieldcole. “I like their sauce better. The toast is definitely better, as terterterret said. A differentiator is that Layne’s has potato salad and Cane’s has cole slaw. But, Layne’s potato salad is better potato salad, than Cane’s cole slaw is for cole slaw.”
Layne’s Chicken Fingers started in 1994 in College Station, Texas, home to Texas A&M University and the Aggies. The restaurant now has 14 locations and is planning to open more 118 more.
Raising Cane’s, in case you were curious, first started in Baton Rouge, near LSU, in 1996. Some Redditors claim that the owner of Raising Cane’s went to an A&M vs. LSU game, tasted Layne’s and decided to open his own restaurant.
