The Gem & Jam Festival 2024 took place from February 2-4 at the Pima County Fairgrounds. The event featured music, art, and a sense of community. Attendees had access to a variety of vendors, artists, and musicians, providing a diverse selection of food, jewelry, gems, clothing, and music. Notably, the art tent hosted live painting sessions by artists such as Kelsey Bottling and Lance Paullin.
Both Bottling and Paullin highlighted the spontaneous nature of their work. Bottling shared that she didn’t fear mistakes, viewing them as opportunities for unexpected outcomes. Paullin, on the other hand, explained his process as starting with a basic idea and being receptive to new concepts that might arise during painting.
The festival also offered workshops, including yoga, drum circles, and chiropractic services. Other activities included tarot card readings and circus tricks lessons. Attendees were seen dancing barefoot, swinging poi balls, and wearing colorful pashminas, contributing to the lively atmosphere.
