Man convicted of manslaughter gets probation in Ulster County assisted suicide case

KINGSTON – An Arizona man was sentenced to probation Tuesday after he was convicted of manslaughter in an assisted suicide case in Ulster County Court.

The Ulster County District Attorney’s office said Stephen Miller, 85, of Tucson, Arizona was convicted Tuesday of second-degree manslaughter, a felony, before Ulster County Court Judge Bryan Rounds.

The district attorney’s office said Rounds then sentenced Miller to five years of probation.

According to the district attorney’s office, Miller’s conviction arose out of an incident on Nov. 9, 2023, during which a woman was found unresponsive by the cleaning staff of a motel in the City of Kingston.

Members of Kingston’s Police Department, Fire Department and other emergency service personnel responded to the scene and determined that it was a case of death by homicide.
