Shooting near dorms at University of Arizona leaves 1 student dead

A shooting on the University of Arizona campus, near the Arizona-Sonora dormitories, left one person dead late Sunday night.

Authorities responded to a reported shooting around 11 p.m. near Park Avenue and Fourth Street where they found a college-age man lying next to a car. Witnesses brought the man, a Pima Community College student, to the car in the parking lot near the dorms to take him to the hospital but then waited for emergency personnel, according to authorities.

University of Arizona police and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the man died at the location.

A preliminary investigation by police suggested the student was shot during a fight involving several individuals at the volleyball courts, close to the Arizona-Sonora residence halls. No other injuries were reported.

The shooter ran from the scene and is still at large, as of Monday morning. Authorities described the suspect as a 6-foot-tall man between 19 and 25 years old with dark skin, facial hair and dark, curly, collar-length hair. He was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve shirt and tan shorts.
